Hi,
I want to Upsize an access 2007 data base to SQL Express 2008, but access
doesn't recognise the server, is it because of access edition is lower than
SQL Express edition?

No.

Office has one series of product numbers, SQL a different and completely
independent one.

Don't know what the problem might be; who's in charge of the SQL/Server
instance? Can you create an ODBC link to it?

I would assume so.

There is a tool from the SQL Server group.
SQL Server Migration Assistant for Access (SSMA Access)
http://www.microsoft.com/sql/solutions/migration/access/default.mspx
which should recognize SQL Express 2008. This tool may do a better
job.

Thanks Tony, I downloaded the SSMA and it did all the works for me.
The only information I shall mention is if you have Attachement field in
your MS Access tables it will be converted to varchar type in SQL so you
should cahnge the varchar to varbinary(max) type to let you attache files
again to the field.
the only problem which I have is during this conversion all attachements
will be lost and I shall attache the files again one by one in new SQL Server
Data base.
If you can give a hint about this problem I appreciate it.
Thanks

Hi All,
Can someone tell me is there is a SSMA for MS access to SQL Express (2008),
the link provided only has one for SQL Server, not express; or will the one
provided work for both?
Thanks
